North Carolina Wineries
Wineries in North Carolina are a great way to take scenic tours of the state, get some fresh air and learn more about the incredibly rich cultural history of wine. With around 200 wineries to choose from, the adventure awaits.

There are three wine areas of North Carolina:
1. Coastal - The mothervine, which is America's oldest cultivated grapevine grows here. Widely grown grape varieties include the native scuppernong grapes.
2. Mountain - 185 tasting rooms, home to four American Viticulture Areas

3. Piedmont - Located in the culture epicenter of North Carolina. Home to three American Viticulture Areas.

The distinction of being an American Viticulture Area is achieved when a region possesses a unique climate, soil and elevation. North Carolina has five in total. The whole US has 252 AVAs and over half are located in California.
