The best wines for Spring

I don't know about you but I have been excited about this spring since October! I love the feeling of getting my garden in order then having friends over in the evening for a cool glass of wine. Here are some of my top picks for spring:

Fridge time: This is obviously left up to interpretation but this is the classic rule of thumb I go by:

Whites and Rose's = remove from fridge 15 minutes before serving, serving them too cold numbs the flavor

Reds = put in fridge 30 minutes before serving to enhance floral notes

*over chilling any wine can cause them to lose their delicate notes

Sparkling Wines:

- pairs with: charcuterie boards, fresh fruit and vegetables

- what to try:

PS Petillant Rose NV = strawberry and citrus

Cascina Zerbetta Shan Pan, Pét Nat 2017 = organic, bubbly Sauvignon Blanc

Lunetta Prosecco Brut = fabulous for mimosas

Red Wines: lighter body reds with higher acidity and lower tannin

- pairs with: grilled red meats/bbq

- what to try:

Young pinot noirs from Oregon, California, New Zealand and Chile

Light loire reds such as Chinon, Bourgeuil and Saumur-Champigny

Tempranillo

Grenache

Rose' Wines: lighter body for day and darker body for night

- pairs with: chicken, fish, vegetables

- what to try:

Lindauer Rose = full body rose'

Marquesa de la Cruz 2013, Garnacha Rose = spanish rose with raspberry and strawberry notes

Richard’s Rose = South Africa, bursting with fruity vibrancy

White Wines: acidity increases refreshing and crisp features

- pairs with: chicken, fish, vegetables, most starters

- what to try:

Albarino

Pinot Gris

Sauvignon Blanc

Chablis
